Ther-Biotic InterFase® is a potent enzyme formulation specifically designed to disrupt gastrointestinal biofilm communities. Although a normal survival mechanism for commensal bacteria, undesirable organisms may become entrenched in biofilm and therefore unresponsive to conventional and natural remedies including probiotics.
Benefits and Features of Interfase
- In vitro testing demonstrates significant anti-biofilm activity†
- Helps degrading bacterial and yeast cell wall structures†
- Encourages healthy intestinal microbial communities†
Biofilms are protective encasements formed by microorganisms making them highly resistant to antimicrobials. Ther-Biotic® InterFase® is a unique enzyme formulation designed to break up the biofilm matrix that embeds the GI organisms.†
Biofilm consists of microorganisms encased within a self-produced matrix of exopolysaccharides and exoproteins that strongly adheres to interfaces and resists dislodgement. Microorganisms residing within biofilms are highly resistant to antimicrobials including antibiotics and bacteriocins produced by probiotics.

Biofilm Cycle
- Bacteria attach to the lumen.
- Colonies of bacteria form via adhesins such as polysaccharides and components of bacterial membranes.
- Bacteria secrete molecules known as autoinducers, which at high concentrations induce expression of proteins that facilitate multi-cellprocesses such as biofilm development.
- Cell growth and continual secretion of polysaccharides result in expansion of the biofilm, with dying cells releasing DNA and proteins—further strengthening the matrix and adding layers to the biofilm.
- Biofilms are able to persist as they simply detach, disperse, and re-colonize elsewhere.

Enzymes in Ther-Biotic®InterFase® are selected for their ability to lyse the extracellular polymers commonly found in biofilm as well as degrade bacterial and yeast cell wall structures.†
The enzyme blend in Ther-Biotic® InterFase®was developed using in vitro testing of antibiofilm activity and was found to have significant antibiofilm activity resulting in meaningful degradation of undesirable biofilm communities.†
Ther-Biotic®InterFase® is intended for use in conjunction with efforts to support normal gastrointestinal function and microbiota.†
As an adjunct, it is best combined with the use of a high-strength, broad-spectrum, multispecies probiotic formulation and a prebiotic to encourage the formation of healthy intestinal microbial biofilm communities.†
The capsules should be taken away from meals to maximize the enzyme effects.
