NuMedica Methyl Folate HP is designed with the most active form of biologically active folate to support the cardiovascular system, nervous system, and homocysteine metabolism. This powerful methyl folate supplement provides therapeutic levels of activated folate; activation means that the body does not need to convert it for use in the body.
Active Folate for Cardiovascular System Support from NuMedica Methyl Folate HP
The Importance of Folate for Your Body
Folate, or vitamin B9, plays an important role in your body and health. First, it converts homocysteine into an essential amino acid. While homocysteine itself is an amino acid, an elevated level of it is associated with an increased risk for heart attack. In this way, folate helps support the health of the cardiovascular system by reducing the risk for both heart attack and stroke.
In addition, folate is an important support for fetal development. Developing infants can experience neural tube defects if their mothers do not have an optimum level of folate early on in their pregnancies. These defects can lead to miscarriage or infants may be born with spina bifida. By increasing folate intake several months before conception, women can better guard against neural tube defects in their developing infants.
Studies also suggest that folate encourages healthy cholesterol levels, provides neurological support, and may even help reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration. Additional studies are looking at folate’s potential to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.
Methyl Folate HP Supports Cardiovascular and Nervous System Health
Folate supplementation supports healthy cardiovascular function, healthy nervous system function and assists in maintaining proper homocysteine metabolism.* Additionally, folate supplementation during pregnancy has been shown to reduce the risk of congenital malformations including neural tube defects (malformations of the spine, skull, and brain).
Methyl Folate™ HP contains Quatrefolic® – the most biologically active form of folate – This formulation allows rapid uptake into the bloodstream.*
This superior, methylated form of folate is metabolically active and ready for the body to use since it requires no additional conversion to be absorbed.* The 5-MTHF in this formula is also known as the “L” form of 5-MTHF since it is the reduced form of folate.
Folate helps maintain homocysteine levels within the normal range, which promotes cardiovascular health and neurotransmitter synthesis — Many people have a genetic mutation of the MTHFR gene.
If you have this genetic mutation- your ability to covert homocysteine to Methionine is compromised. This will cause elevations in Homocystein levels and put you at risk for many health problems.
According to the Genetics Home Reference Library, MTHFR is a gene that provides the body with instructions for making a certain enzyme called methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase. In fact, “MTHFR” is the shortened name for this enzyme. (3)
There are two main MTHFR mutations that researchers focus on most often. These mutations are often called “polymorphisms” and affect genes referred to as MTHFR C677T and MTHFR A1298C. Mutations can occur on different locations of these genes and be inherited from only one or both parents. Having one mutated allele is associated with increased risk of certain health problems, but having two increases the risk much more.
An MTHFR gene mutation can change the way some people metabolize and convert important nutrients from their diets into active vitamins, minerals and proteins. Genetic mutations can also alter neurotransmitter and hormone levels.
