L-Proline, provided by Douglas Labotatories, supplies 500 mg of the amino acid L-proline in each capsule.
FUNCTIONS
Amino acids have many functions in the body. They are the building blocks for all body proteins—structural proteins that build muscle, connective tissue including skin, bone and other structures, and functional proteins in the form of thousands of metabolically active enzymes. Amino acids provide the body with the nitrogen that is essential for growth and maintenance of all tissues and structures.
Proline is one of the principal amino acids that are needed by the body to build collagen. This is a structural protein required to make elastic fibres found in the skin, bones, ligaments and tendons. Together with lysine and vitamin C, proline is converted into hydroxyproline to help form collagen.
L-proline is an amino acid manufactured mainly from ornithine, glutamine, and glutamate in the liver.
When glucose supplies decline, the body will start to breakdown its own muscle tissue. Improving proline levels, especially if they show up low in amino acid testing, can help to prevent this from occurring.
Hardening of the arteries, known as arteriosclerosis, is the leading cause of heart disease. This condition develops as the arteries thicken and become stiff following the accumulation of fat on the artery walls.
This restricts the transport of nutrients and oxygen throughout the body. The reduced blood flow and pressure build-up causes heart attacks. There is evidence to support the use of proline and other amino acids and vitamins to prevent arteriosclerosis. This amino acid helps to strengthen the artery walls and protect the endothelium.
Endurance runners and people that participate in prolonged exercise routines may have a greater requirement for this amino acid. Proline helps to produce and sustain muscle tissue.
Symptoms of a L-proline deficiency
INDICATIONS
Some conditions such as a low-protein diet, chronic injuries and illnesses may prevent you from manufacturing adequate quantities of L-proline. Endurance athletes may also benefit from L-proline supplements, especially long-distance runners. Specific signs in the skin that can indicate a deficiency of L-proline include wrinkles and sores that are slow to heal. Chronic joint discomfort due to degenerating cartilage, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid arthritis) is also a sign that you could benefit from L-proline. The biochemical actions of pure L-proline include weak agonism of the glycine receptors and some glutamate receptors. L-Proline may be a useful dietary adjunct for individuals wishing to supplement with this amino acid.
1 Capsule Contains:
L-Proline ……………………………………………………………………………………………….. 500mg
SUGGESTED USE
Adults take 1 capsule daily with meals or as directed by physician.
SIDE EFFECTS
No adverse side effects have been reported. It’s important to check with a doctor before taking any supplements. High amino acid intake generates higher waste products and this needed to be removed by the kidneys and liver. This can be a problem if these organs are already compromised. Consequently it’s very important to follow the recommended dosages and ensure that there are no underlying health issues.
STORAGE
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
